Thames Valley Police in Milton Keynes are appealing for witnesses after an elderly man was left stranded after his bicycle was stolen on Sunday (15/8).

The 67-year-old victim, who had cycled to Milton Keynes from Bedford to meet a friend, was left stranded in Milton Keynes after his bicycle was stolen from McDonald’s in Westcroft around 1.30pm.

The bicycle is a steel-framed Bianchi racing bike with carbon forks and is light peppermint green, including the handlebar tape. All the components are Campagnolo and the bicycle was in an immaculate condition. It held two water bottles, a silver pump and had a small bag attached containing a spare tyre. The wheels are in a distinctive grass-green colour.

The offender is white, aged in his early twenties, slim and 5ft 8ins. He has short hair and had a mark on one of his cheeks, possibly a scar or spot. He made off with the bicycle towards Emerson Valley.

Staff at McDonald’s kindly arranged to give the victim a lift home to Bedford.

PC Chris Bird, investigating, said: “The victim’s bicycle was made specifically for him in 2007; cycling is his life long passion and his bicycle was his pride and joy, keeping him fit and active. Obviously the victim is devastated by the loss of his bicycle and I am appealing for anyone who has seen this bicycle or has been offered a bicycle matching the above description to contact me or Crimestoppers.”

Anyone with any information is urged to contact PC Bird at Milton Keynes police station via the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505. If you do not want to talk to the police, call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
