mkam2Motorbike riders in Milton Keynes are being offered the chance to learn safer riding techniques used by trained police motorcyclists.

Milton Keynes Advanced Motorists (MKAM) in partnership with Thames Valley Police Roads Policing department will be running a ‘Better Riding Course’ during September to give motorbike riders a better understanding of how to stay safe on our roads.

The course will start on Thursday 9 September and will include five weekly evening sessions from 7.30pm until 9.30pm. On Saturday 9 October there will be an opportunity to have your riding observed by a police motorcyclist and receive feedback.

The aim of the course is to teach safe and defensive riding techniques using film, ‘Roadcraft’ the police driver’s handbook and the Highway Code.

Rod Hardie, a retired police officer with many years’ experience as a traffic police motorcyclist, and currently the chief observer with MKAM will be presenting the course along with serving officers and other observers from MKAM.

Rod said: “This is a great opportunity for riders in Milton Keynes to benefit from a wealth of experience from some accomplished motorcycle riders. We will use various presentations and videos to demonstrate practical tips and techniques on how to stay safe as well as share and hopefully learn from each other experiences.”
