Big Fun Float and the Carnival (Review) Newport Pagnell 5 July 08 |

Big Fun Float Newport Pagnell 5 July 08 The Big Fun float organized by Brian set off at Tanners Drive Blakelands with around 10-15 other floats. The Parade was led by the Vintage and Classic Car Rally, followed by Harley Davidsons, JDP Motors Performance Cars then us, the floats with dancers and walkers. I have to say the Big Fun Float was definitely the most pumping of all the floats, with maybe the Indian themed float coming in a close second. To be fair though the float was racked out with a massive sound system and it was pumping out a quality mix of dance music and to put the icing on the cake, it had a professional bongo outfit called ‘The Urban Tribesmen’ adding their skills to the already pumping dance music. I was there just to take some snaps but from the start ended up taking little hand held instruments of the Urban Tribesmen and forgetting to take snaps danced along in a bliss I haven’t felt since the 90s rave scene. From the start of its take off the float was pumping through the streets of Newport Pagnell with The Urban Tribesmen not letting up on those bongos at all. Kids squirted waterguns and threw water balloons at us. Everyone welcomed us with some people even standing, waving from the roofs of their garages and houses. I’m not sure what time it got to the Carnival but it felt like a hour maybe a couple of hours on the float. Carnival at the Riverside Meadow Newport PagnellThe Carnival was already happening when we got there. This was held at the Riverside Meadow and was the 48th Newport Pagnell Carnival with the very first back in 1961. The theme for this year was “A Moment in Time” and thankfully was nice and sunny, unlike last year as the rain came down hard and washed everyone out. Gates opened at 12 noon with an entrance fee of £1 for adults and 50p for kids and OAPs Carnival day was for the whole family and indeed the whole community. The Carnival provided the opportunity for local Schools, clubs, and charities to raise money. There was a semi decent fair there, live bands, a children’s entertainer, magician, rodeo bull, model railway, quads, bouncy castles, face painting, children’s fun workshop, stalls, food, beer, tea and coffee, ice creams to mention a few things. There were lots of raffles and a party after the parade at the Green Man organized by Brian using the same system on the float with various DJ’s. Overall it was a nice day with a shout going out to the Heavens for providing such lovely sunshine.
